After Care for Tattoos

So now that you got your new tattoo, how do you take care of it?

Tattoo Care

The first  few days after getting your new tattoo are very important to the rest of your tattoo's life.

Remove the bandage after 1 HOUR.

After removal or the bandage, or it falls off, GENTLY WASH with antibacterial soap and water and PAT DRY with clean towel.

Prevent clothing and jewelry from rubbing on the tattoo.

DO NOT reapply bandage.

Allow your tattoo to air dry for at least 24 HOURS after removing the bandage.  This means no lotions.

After 24-48 hours, if your tattoo feels excessively dry or tight, you can apply a small amount of  H2Ocean lotion or Lubriderm lotion with CLEAN HANDS.  Do not use lotions that contain petroleum.  (A and D, Neosporin, Aquaphilic)

Limit use of lotion to 1-2 times daily.

DO NOT use any petroleum based ointments on your tattoo such as A&D or Neosporin.

If a serious health condition develops such as extreme redness, major rash, bleeding or discharge, consult a physician.

DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH YOUR TATTOO NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT ITCHES!!!!

DO NOT GO SWIMMING OR SOAK IN HOT TUB OR BATH.

Instead, let the skin do what it naturally does. It will develop a thin flaky layer  of dead skin. Let it fall off on its own. Be careful not to wear tight fitting clothing over your new tattoo for at least  two weeks.  Try not to have clothing or shoes rub across your new tattoo.
